Both explanations are superficial and simplistic; only a gullible or dishonest person could be satisfied so easily. Fake news isn't suddenly ruining America, but putting government in charge of deciding what news is fake will. The impact of fake news, propaganda and misinformation has been widely scrutinized since the US election.
